Fabienne’s Quilt
Last January we heard about the Haitian earthquake. Helen, a member of the class, had one of her daughter in law’s family in
Haiti when the earthquake struck. After a few very worried days they managed to contact Fabienne and establish that while she
was unhurt, her house had been damaged and she had lost a lot of her possessions. We thought we would make her a quilt. The
class thought that the pattern friendship star was a good straightforward pattern and each member of the class made a block
(patchwork square). Helen and Wendy put the twelve blocks together and I machine quilted it and put the binding on. We all
posed for a photo with the quilt in class. In October Helen went to see her family in the USA and met Fabienne who was also
visiting her family there. As you can see from the photo she was delighted with the gift and it is now back in Haiti with her.
She is sharing accommodation with friends at the moment and is looking forward to moving back into her repaired house soon.
